I like the idea, I can see the gurren lagann influences. I do think what would be nice is a quick key for buying upgrades, since often I lose when moving my mouse over to and from the upgrades, so a button press to upgrade it instead of having to waste precious seconds moving the mouse, that would make it more enjoyable, in my opinion.

I think a way to compare my performance with other player would be a great addition to the game, like a score/'survival time'/distance traveled (More representative than comparing maximum energy)
